Good question. Do you have an example if a table with radiating holes? I presume you are considering a full table of holes?

 

I meant examples of diagonal hole pattern. Just having an issue visualizing how a diagonal pattern will differ if the entire table is filled with holes.

Ironically, my shop built table has holes that are staggered. As the second example above.

 

In my work I did use a table with holes.
Odds are it is just for sale's of table.
Most tables I seen in shops had no holes or round holes and shop made.

I find for the work I do patterns are irrelevant. But I'm sure it may matter to some who do repetitious production work.

I have this 2'x4' table from weldingtables.com

with 16mm holes on a 2" grid pattern

which can also be used on the diagonal with holes spaced 2.8284" apart (2 x sqrt(2))

works the same way to get a square grid on a diagonally laid out table

with either, you can line things up parallel or 45 degrees to an edge.

 

Perhaps a better question might be, does anybody using one of these tables hits dead spots with tooling?

My shop built table has dimension where the my clamps will not reach. I am guessing there is a relationship between the holes and clamp reach. In just modded some cheap bessey clamps to work for my table.

 

Clamps with variable throat depth would help...
