I want a copy of the pict of the pigeon with the book! There's so many times that would be appropriate here.

I took a tour of USS Hornet this week. The ship is amazing.

I could not help but notice the welds. This electrical junction box was not the worst weld I saw that day. It was in the room where they did their navigating. I could not say for sure if it was original or something welded by the museum volunteers as they renovated the ship for use as a museum.

Thanks Duane. Dhem PM'd me this copy he blew up and enhanced earlier.

All I can imagine from seeing these "welds" is that they were made by someone using a coat hanger jammed into the end of an extension cord.

This is the body for my jeep showing some of where the previous owner tried to patch it. He'd even painted it but it's hard to believe he thought it was actually done. In the second photo he was trying to weld the channel for bolting the body to the frame and completely missed the joint. At least it won't be hard to remove all this crap; one of the patches has already come loose just from moving the tub around in the shop.

Cheers,

Bill

There is a clown on YouTube welding with stick, jumper cables, and two 12 volt batteries.

There actually is a YouTube video of me welding with 3x12v batteries and some jumper cables, I've done this quite a few times, last time was out in the Australian outback 500 miles from anywhere doing a repair on our trailer.

Cheers Andrew

You had a welding helmet, and rod, but no welder?

That's pretty bad. But I've talked with welders who were stationed on ships in the navy. Keep in mind, that might have been welded while the ship was on a tour of duty somewhere; in a storm, with 40'+ waves. It's hard to hit a moving target. One fellow talked about having to TIG weld a steam line in heavy seas. What should have been a couple hours work took him most of a day because the weather was terrible at the time the work was done. It would have been replaced once the ship returned to port. I wonder if that conduit was a temporary patch under bad conditions that was never meant to be permanent, and was never replaced...

So let me get this straight. When I pile a bunch of sh!t weld on and I feel it wasn't enough I simply pile more sh!t on top of that?

Those bird nested header welds looked like the ones I pulled off my ranger header when I got the truck. I got under the truck with a chisel and hammer only to find out I could have left the hammer on the bench. I set the chisel ready for the hammer strike and the weld fell off before I could hit it. Lmao!
