I own the largest bottles that I am told that I can own, around 90 cu ft, have never had a problem, although I usually use the same supplier. It is just an exchange, simple and fast.

My last oxygen fill, 92 cu ft, cost me $20, including all taxes and fees, at my LWS, which is independent. Argon, 92 cu ft, cost me $35 plus tax and fees. Airgas charges more, last time I checked.

Now that I hear what you guys are paying for leases, I am very happy I own the bottles. I know that I could probably get gas cheaper in larger bottles, but my usage is low enough that any savings on gas would be eaten up by lease fees. I had leased a large tri-mix tank for a stainless project, but returned it when the project was over; they just charged me a few dollars a month, so that worked out well.

Size B Acetylene $85 including fees. I own the bottle. Used to be $55, 3 years ago.

Size 9 Oxygen, $45 including fees. I own the bottle .Maybe $5 more than it used to be.

Size 22 (135cuft) Blueshield8 (c25) $85 fill, $99 for 3 year lease.

I just paid $25 for a 150 cu ft. oxygen tank and $70 for a size 4 acetylene tank with 125 cu ft. in it in Grand Rapids MI. I own my tanks and get them filled at Airgas. my oxy tank with a receipt says Airgas on the collar. the acetylene tank they just swapped me has Airgas stamped on the shoulder. I'm not happy about the names on the tanks with the swap, but I have no problem getting them filled at Airgas with no account. They say all the tanks that go out their door are stamped now. My local Airgas does not fill, only exchanges tanks they get from their main branch. I don't know how they price the gas, oxy is always the same. Previous fill of acetylene the tank had 140 cu ft. and cost me about $90.

If I can't fix it it's broke!

Mine come from an obscure one man company called "Liberated", a division of Seimens. It's amazing how much welding fuel is used in windmill maintenance. The bottles just seem to vanish ? It's nearly free.;)

up here in the -40ds just got a bill for large ox and big acct, just the lease 200$ ,,, can only buy small cycs but i think its time to find a better price or something. i dont use much any more since being retired,,or just tired ... but u cant be a fixit guy with out torches......

Bought 80cf argon cylinders $200. Refills/exchange usually around$35-40.

There is a place here that charges new price for a bottle that im going to exchange for another then if i went somewhere else and buy a new bottle its mine and i can just keep refilling. whats up with that?

Yesterday 336 cu.ft. Argon $82.14 including tax and $2 surcharge.

I started TIG welding in December. I went to my LWS and asked them about rentals. It was a deposit of $150 and $7 a month rent. Three times I asked and it was $7 per month or $84 per year. I get my first bill and there is an additional $15 hazmat fee on rental tanks. Why did they not disclose this? I argued and they called the downtown office and agreed to take my $7.75 and waive the hazmat this month if I return it before February. This is an additional $15 per month. There is no hazmat fee on customer owned tanks. I wonder if there is a "customer owned maintenance fee"? I better ask. They will probably add one just after I buy the cylinder. They are looking for a used 80cuft to sell me. The fill on the rental tank which is a 150cuft was $35 for argon. Now I have to find things to weld to use the remaining gas before February. I am liking flux core MIG more and more all the time.

$15 hazmat fee is on the printed bill. I asked at the store and they said what I wrote above. Maybe they just started this in January and wasn't in effect in December.

I used to rent. Then I looked at my monthly bill. I broke down and bought mine
