It seems that the really bad welds are always on something that moves.

 

If the welds were any good it wouldn't move.

To my way of thinking, these aren't "welds" that failed! Someone has deposited a bit of
CRAP, called it a weld, and there is a failure. No surprise.

I don't know what I like more about that video;

The stick welding in flip flops...

The oily rags and trash on the floor where he is "welding"...

The grand canyon sized gaps in the tube...

or the mask setup that makes him look like he is robbing a liquor store.

There are so many things wrong with that viseo, I can't even begin to count.

 

We can all aspire to have fitup like that.

 

An attempt to attach new rear axle brackets and some sort of bracing by a friend of mine.

Car still drives to work almost daily with a BBC and 4 speed.

 

I look at a lot of factory welds on farm equipment, and a lot of welds on equipment up for auction which were made by the owners of the equipment. I see a lot of "bad" welds.

BUT, thes welds have stood the test of time, and function. It's really amazing, and it makes me less eager to "flame" the so called hobby dooooods for what they do. It's just not my call.

I think the welds hold up because of the continuity. Rigidity. Isolating two pieces of metal from vibrating/moving is a powerful thing. Reduncancy (sp?) is a good thing too.........coupla weak welds can make one halfway decent weld.

I wouldn't reccomend it, but it sometimes seems to work

 

Huh, only needs a bit more weld on the top area before he paints it.....LOL.

 

The thing with those brackets is that he was replacing them after he bent the original ones on the 1/4 mile.

The original bracket were fine until he fitted slicks.

Slicks, 4 speed and wild take off make for some big loads on those brackets.






Oh, he did make those welds look good by giving them a finger smear of black silicon.

Some of the comments may have been a little harsh, but you just can't weld anything and everything together.

 

There are two things that bother me about these posts and vids

1. admitting your welds are bad but zero effort to improve them
2. posing as an expert showing the rest of the world how to weld terribly

The sad part is you know that every one of them looked at it and said well it ain't pretty but she'll hold.

 

A little grinding a little paint will make a welder what he ain't !!! But I think they forgot all of that.
