Hi, I'm new to site with a question. I inherited an Airco Dip Pak 250 Mig welder and want to know if it will do continuous welding. The dial has 3 positions, continuous-spot-stitch but I am not able to get it to continuous weld. No manual with it . What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome.

I had one of those in the early 80's. Like others I sold and wish I had not. Great machine.

First does the contactor close? If not the trigger switch, board or relay could be bad.

If the contactor does close, does the gas flow and drive wheels spin? If they do maybe the liner in the torch is blocked.

As others have mentioned, it's wonderful machine and stupidly simple inside.

Unplug .... de-engergize and clean out.

Inspect for broken brittle wires, blown components etc.

As others have stated, it could be a bad board or as simple as a dirty contactor or switch.

Would it help if I said I was going to suggest checking the switch but was busy trying to locate a manual (which I haven't) for it? :D

Glad you found the problem and that it was a simple fix.

I'm trying to help a friend who has a farm and needs his welder. I'm new to the forum and this Welding site. I like what I've read so far - It's great stuff! My friend's welder is a ESAB Dip-Pak 250 208/230V Single Phase Welder C/w Qty Of Welding/Ground Cable And ESAB Model AH20-P Mig Gun. SN D1301159, PN 13466090. I looked at it briefly and it's definitely used. Problem is no wire feed or possibly energize when the trigger is pulled. On a cursory look nothing seemed burnt or loose, etc. I was hoping to find an owner's manual and possibly a wiring diagram if anyone has to share. I'm an electrical engineer (not bragging) and have fixed a lot of equipment. But, I'm sure everyone knows - it sure helps to have a road-map! Thanks in advance!

If nothing when the trigger is pulled check the wiring and switch in the trigger. If ok, check the contactor relay that the trigger wires attach to see if the relay is toast. There may also be fuses that have failed. If the contactor relay is ok then look over the contactor, but usually the gas and wire drive motor works.

Good luck.
