I am getting ready to order the primeweld 180, and would like to order all the necessary consumables at the same time. But since I’ve never had a mig welder I don’t know which parts to order or the life expectancy of each part. Hoping for some guidance…

thanks in advance

From my experience most chinese mig consumables are either Lincoln or Trafimet copies.

I've had good luck with companies like Riverweld on Amazon, and they are a way cheaper than brand name products. I wouldn't get in a hurry to start buying parts. I would assume it will come with enough consumables to get you started. Get it home, put some miles on it and try a few different products to see what you like.

Louie is right, Primeweld uses TWECO guns. I order from Welding City, I just got got a Primeweld 285 and have ordered all my consumables from welding city. I would get basically everything that attaches to the action end of the gun, contact tips, gas diffusers, nozzles and the nozzle insulators if the gun uses them. That' probably a #1gun. I'll also recommend that if you're using fluxcore wire that you would avoid E71T-GS, I very much prefer E71T-11. I would also consider stepping up to the 200 amp multifunction.

Not knowing your level of commitment, contact tips is the minimum surplus. However, you will not go wrong with a spare nozzle, a diffuser or 2, and a liner on the shelf. If you flux core weld , a few plastic diffuser protectors or dedicated nozzle. Spare parts will keep you moving and avoid delays in completing a project.

Do you have one of these nearby :

It's a little odd that Primeweld doesn't offer more MIG parts, most of the stuff seems to be for TIG, or plasma cutting. Princess auto must have something that will fit your gun.

If they do, I would only pay their price if I was in a bind... there is cheaper sources online, but yes, it will be at least 2 weeks away.

I keep at least 15 contact tips of each size, 5 nozzles, 5 diffusers and insulators, I still need to get a liner. Contact tips are absolute, keep several of each size, I burned up 3 or 4 figuring out my spool gun with aluminum, one little kerfuffle and the tip is junk, if you have a lathe & the proper drill bits you might be able to save them, MAYBE, not likely.
