There was also a 265 sold in cars and trucks after 1955. To complicate matters, the American 216 and 230 used a short block (23") . If you happen to come across one that was built in Canada (also sold in Australia), they used the longer 25" block on the 216 and 230 as well. My Canadian built 228 is actually a physically larger motor ( 25" block compared to the American 23") than an American 230. The 250 and 265 c.i. motors were 25" blocks on both sides of the 49th. Not sure of the cutoff date, but I "think" anything built before 1942 used different blocks and parts and are not interchangeable regardless of similarities in c. i. sizes...
