Hey all, I've spent years working in fab shops but totally green to branching out on my own. My buddy asked me to help him out on an aluminum job. I'd be fabricating some 1/8' aluminum stair cases and welding. He has a Miller bobcat 250 and two older suitcases welders. A Lincoln LN25 and a Lincoln SP170t. He doesn't do MIG aluminum so I have to set up a machine to use. I'm wondering which machine would be best to get a push/pull gun or spool gun for, I'm assuming the Lincolns as I heard it's easier. Would I have to get a whip specific to Lincoln and is there any differences between two welders? Any advice is appreciated, I've done lots of aluminum welding but it was with my old shops big Millermatic with water cooled whips and a push/pull one.

probably be cheaper to buy a Primeweld 180 w/ spool gun

The LN is a Suitcase/ Wirefeeder that needs a power source like the Bobcat but not designed for AL or a Spoolgun.

The SP170T is a stand alone MIG machine that will require 240v. It is a Tapped voltage machine and a wee bit older- not that that is bad but not a plug and play friendly Spoolgun machine. I think you had to modify the machine with a toggle switch kit. But again it's an older machine so finding a kit might be problematic.
