I am new to molds that are made out of plastic that you can inject into. I have heard of plastic injection molds though that are made out of different aluminums and steels. I'm interested in seeing some of this mold welding as you put it. Only reason I would think of for needing to weld on a mold would be for larger molds that have been damaged from clamping down on a solidified sprue of a glass filled plastics like GE/Lexan or a metal insert that happen to get stuck in the mold. Or perhaps where the off gas vent is located next to a parting line and the parts are flashing.
