OUCH! That reminds me of a motor base adapter I designed & tacked it together, I sent it to the Boiler Shop where a little guy that worked full time welding new ends on punch pars for the copper smelter, He' throw down 1/8th 7018 @ 180 amps, needless to say when I got my adapter back the 1/2" motor base warped so bad that I couldn't mill it flat, I cut it off & welded a plate back on myself, the only reason I sent it over was because I really didn't want to drag my welding stuff out. I finally got ahold of a motor and figured out how to put a proper bearing in the end. The motors only had one bearing on the fan end and depended on the spline coupling on the drive end for support from the gearbox bearings, they just didn't hold up. Everything was there in the end bell for a bearing so all I had to do was make a short sleeve to fit the od of the shaft and the id of the proper bearing, easy peasy and after setup I could machine a piece of tubing to size plus a few Thousandths on the od and give it a light skim to size after on the motor shaft and do 6 or 8 motors an hour including teardown machine & press work and reassembly. They were designed to fail.

In this case, I found these pieces in a scrap bin. I think they were the ends of arches that were created with a 3-roller machine (Akyapak) from straight tubing. I think the machine can't roll to the very end, so they have to cut the ends off. I thought it might be more fun to weld than practicing on typical straight scrap metal.

LOL, probably completely exclusive to the metals industry, smelting to be specific, it kept some doohickies called tuyeres(tweers) opened by punching though the solidifying copper deposits so air could get into the converters to allow for the continuation of the separation of the copper from the irons, silica & other waste. You might try a search for copper smelting.

Okay. So 'pusher car' isn't something a drug dealer drives. I would be interested in smelting metal of any sort sometime around never. I'm not into mining bauxite, either. I like my metal already rolled, extruded, etc.
