Found another machine on Craigslist I'm interested in as a fix-er-up project. Lincwelder 225 in pretty sorry condition. Supposedly the engine runs, but it "needs a new fan"... not sure exactly what that translates to. Doesn't appear to come with leads, and it's an hour and a half ride from me, so if I make the drive it's not going to be for the sake of just checking it out.

It obviously needs a "fan", a lot of cleaning up and a set of cables. Beyond that, I have no idea, so I'll assume it'll probably have a few more this-and-thats wrong with it.

What would be a safe number to offer? I'm thinking 100 bucks, which is a total lowball compared to their asking price, but on the flip-side, it's an old-***, beat up machine that isn't guaranteed to even weld. It needs 100 bucks in cables, 100 bucks in batteries, and probably 100 hours of restoration work to get it back in shape.

Or should I just forget it? :dizzy:

I'm no expert, but sounds like a lot of gas money if the guy doesn't want to lower the price significantly and you're not willing to pay more than $100. Plus out the drive time.

How does he know it "works" if no leads, no battery, etc.? Only time I would buy that was if it was local. Very local. Even at the low price.

Even if you went 150, not the worst investment. Take a meter and check across the lead terminals, check the AC plugs, and don't forget most of these are 50hertz and not compatible with a lot of tools, and check to see if the batteries are charging if it starts. I believe these use the armature to start the engine and don't have a starter so make sure it is working because that can get expensive. If you do make the trip, take the time to check it out good or don't spend the cash. Maybe you want to wait him out some, loosen up that fixed price a bit. Good luck, let us know.

One in nice shape goes for about $600 around here and is not exactly that model, I think mine is older.. That might help you decide. I do like mine which took a carb redo and some tinkering but has settled into a good machine.
