New to the forum here and trying to get into the welding world. A friend of mine is selling his Power Mig 255, it is a 2006 model and hasn't been run in a couple years. He is giving me a reasonable price of $300 and I'm curious if that machine is worth it. I figured I'd start somewhere and if this is a quality welder why not give it a shot. Are there any issues that someone might know of this welder having, or maybe should I consider a newer model? If it does only last a little while because of it's age, would the parts on it be worth something if I parted it out? Also are parts easy to come by for this model? Thanks in advance.

My buddy said the only issue it had was the wire feed got erratic at times. I cant seem to find a definitive answer when I looked up what would cause this. Seems like it could be any combination of things. I just hope that Lincoln has good technical support and parts availability for such an old model if it is something major. I am just trying to weigh the options, being new to welding I want to start with the best welder I can within a reasonable budget.

They are pretty bomb proof. Mine has ridden hundreds of rough miles in the back of the pickup, all the paint is rusted off from getting rained on and sitting outside, been run until it begged for mercy with .045 dual shield, and had a few nasty falls, but is still the wire feed I go to often because it has a sweet arc. You won't regret buying it.
